About The Circulation Foundation
In 1992, Mr. Anthony Chant and Professor Peter Bell, leading consultant vascular surgeons, recognised that there was no charity dealing with the vascular (circulatory) system and vascular disease as a whole. They therefore established the Circulation Foundation (CF) to satisfy a growing need in this important and under-funded medical field.
The Foundation aims to prevent ill health due to vascular disease by drawing attention to its existence, its prevalence and to the devastating effects, that it causes.
The CF also shows people what steps they can all take to prevent it. This includes encouraging a healthy lifestyle and highlighting the need for screening in those at risk, e.g. men over 50 and diabetics.
Another priority is the education of GPs in early diagnosis of vascular disease and appropriate referral of patients to vascular specialists. For example, early diagnosis can cut fatalities from aneurysms from over 80% to less than 5%.
We are members of the Association of Medical Research Charities; we are also affiliated to the National Association of Patient Participation.
Further funding is vital to progress our work and to enable us to grow into an even more effective organisation. Fundraising is made all the more difficult for us being a non-household name with a cause which, although so common, is hard to "sell"-but we are working on it! Financial support from the public and corporate bodies will give the Foundation the ability to plan ahead and provide us with even greater credibility and become ever more useful in the fight against vascular disease.
