The Circulation Foundation is a UK based charity, dedicated to vascular health.
Initially formed in 1992 by Vascular Surgeons, and working under the umbrella of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, The Circulation Foundation is exceptionally proud to have evolved to create a partnership agreement with the Rouleaux Club, the Society of Vascular Nurses and The College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science (CSVS) to become the charity of the vascular societies. This reflects the multi-disciplinary nature of the patients’ pathway and our working lives. We believe this will make the charity stronger, more representative of the professional vascular community, more sustainable and resilient with a single unified, louder, voice.
Vascular Disease is as common as cancer and heart disease, unfortunately with worse outcomes for patients in some scenarios, and the risk of limb loss. Despite this, there is less awareness of the conditions such as Peripheral Arterial Disease, Carotid Stenosis, Aortic Aneurysms, and Venous Insufficiency. There can also be less funding, resource and sub-optimal management allocated to these conditions compared to cancer and heart disease. These conditions have a profound effect on our patients, their families, and cost impact to the NHS.
The Circulation Foundation has three main aims:
- To support vital research into vascular disease
- To support individuals living with vascular disease
- To raise the awareness of the impact vascular disease has on our patients, their carers and the wider NHS
We promote our awareness programmes nationally focusing on providing better information and support for patients and their families.
We also aim to create a better understanding of the importance of healthy arteries and veins, and how this can be easily achieved leading to longer, healthier lives.
The Circulation Foundation has created a structured research programme aimed at preventing Vascular disease, advancing and discovering new treatments and improving patient care.
The Circulation Foundation is the charitable foundation of the Vascular Society, run by a committee which are accountable to the Trustees of the Vascular Society. The Circulation Foundation is the working name of the Vascular Society (company number 5060866 and charity number 1102769).
