As part of the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Hull, the Circulation Foundation delivered a legacy awareness event at St Stephen’s Shopping Centre. The aim was: to take vascular health messages beyond the conference walls and into the local community.
The stand focused on raising awareness, encouraging screening, and signposting people to support.
Working alongside local AAA screening teams, smoking cessation services and diabetes specialists, the Circulation Foundation team spoke with members of the public about vascular health and disease.
What we heard
Many conversations centred around:
- AAA screening, with several people admitting they had ignored or delayed appointments
- Peripheral arterial disease and leg symptoms
- Varicose veins, lymphoedema and swollen legs
- Smoking, cholesterol and diabetes-related vascular risk
Importantly, some visitors took immediate action on the day - including signing up to smoking cessation services, while others left better informed and encouraged to speak to their GP or attend screening appointments.
